AREA 34 CORRECTIONS COMMITTEE

Carrying the A.A. Message to People in Custody

Area 34 Corrections Committee focuses on helping people in custody throughout Area 34, Western Michigan.

We also participate in Michigan Statewide, expanding our service scope to the entire state.

This includes: (Area 34 Western MI), (Area 32 East Central MI), and (Area 33 South East MI)

What we do

  • We bring meetings inside correctional facilities

  • We provide print and digital literature to facilities.

  • We raise awareness about The A.A. Corrections Correspondence Service (CCS)  to those inside facilities and to A.A. members on the outside hoping to carry the message to those inside.

  • We help people in custody transition to the local A.A. community through the A.A. Prerelease Contact Program (PRCP.)

  • We inform correctional officials, A.A. members inside, and A.A. members on the outside how to acquire our A.A. digital literature.

The A.A. Corrections PreRelease Contact Program connects the A.A. member being released from prison with Alcoholics Anonymous in their community. Click on the leaflet links. They offer information details that explains the procedures for A.A. members “on the inside” about to be released and  procedures for A.A. members “on the outside.” The leaflets also include the necessary forms.

A.A. Corrections Correspondence Program (CCS)

Write to a person in custody: The forms below are one of the most productive ways for individual A.A. members to carry the message to inmates who are confined. The CCS from is not intended for involuntary signups from a third party (signing up for someone else.) Our experience shows that unsolicited sign up may delay a person’s decision to turn to A.A. for help.  Instead please have the “inside” A.A. person in custody complete the form and contact us directly so we can assist them in their request.

for AA Members on the Outside

Once the form is submitted and processed, you will be contacted by our General Service Office (GSO) via email. Many AA members do use their home address as we match people by distance of 700 miles or greater.

Some ask their AA Group, Intergroup, or Central Office to use their PO Box for receiving mail from a person in custody.
