AREA 34 TREATMENT FACILITIES COMMITTEE
A.A.'s Bridging the Gap Program (BTG)
What is Bridging the Gap? Bridging the Gap is a temporary contact program for individuals getting out of treatment or other facilities.
The concept behind “Bridging the Gap” (BTG) is as old as Alcoholics Anonymous itself — one drunk talking to another, each reinforcing the other’s understanding that they can find a way to face life sober, and build meaningful relationships without alcohol.
In order to bridge the gap, A.A. members have volunteered to be temporary contacts and introduce newcomers to Alcoholics Anonymous.
A separate program, “Contact upon release” has been created for those leaving correctional facilities.

BRIDGING THE GAP PROCEDURES
A confined person with a drinking problem is eligible for this program when they are within three months of being released.
They fill out a form giving their name, age, gender, and release date along with a phone number and address where released if possible; a general location.
Bridging the Gap Coordinator will match them with a suitable temporary contact, taking into consideration – age, gender, and destination.
After selection, the temporary A.A. contact will confirm the request with the new member.
The new member and the temporary contact will then make arrangements to meet after the release date and attend an A.A. meeting together.
